Ceramics inspired by my surroundings on the edge of the moor...
The 'stone' series - vessels created from mixed clays evocative of the moorland landscape and terrain.
The 'mocha diffusion' series - using a traditional decorating technique to capture the delicacy and intricacy of local ferns and lichen.
The 'textured' series - celebrating a beautiful grogged stoneware clay from a small clay pit in the south-west
The 'granite' series - individual vessels with granite inclusions from the edge of Dartmoor embedded into the surface.
The 'Dartmoor' series - handmade bespoke vessels in a unique 'wild' clay, foraged locally on the edge of the moor adjacent to my studio
Please do order online or get in touch if you would like a unique piece made for you. It is a pleasure to discuss making something specially to order.
In my remote moorland studio, I make wheel thrown and hand decorated ceramics. If you visit my Instagram account, I hope you can see how the Dartmoor terrain and flora influence my work. I feel privileged to live in this beautiful area, and to be able to spend my time making carefully hand crafted ceramics. I have been working for over a decade, and trained formally before undertaking an apprenticeship for a year with a local potter.
Recently I have been privileged to be supported by Arts Council England on an innovative Arts Council funded project. I have regularly been selected for and participated in a number of national and international contemporary craft events, including Art in Clay, Earth and Fire, Contemporary Craft Festival and Handmade in Britain Chelsea.
I make small batch ceramics - including tableware - and a smaller number of unique bespoke pieces. Most of my work is high fired in an electric kiln but on occasion I use the alternative firing technique of raku firing to produce vessels, which although fired to lower temperature, are sealed and functional.
My ceramics have featured in Devon Life, Devon Today, Devon Homes, Country Homes and Interiors, Country Living, BBC Gardens Illustrated, The Telegraph, World of Interiors, Ceramics Monthly, Crafts Magazine and House and Garden.
A limited range of work is periodically available online - with shop openings announced on Instagram/Facebook.
As well as being available to view and purchase online, my work is stocked in the UK by several gallery outlets. Please contact these galleries individually if you are making a special trip.
